Duration of Trusteeship

The LMRDA defines a trusteeship as a temporary remedy to correct emergency situations in a subordinate union.

The trusteeship is valid for 18 months from the date of its establishment and after this time is invalid unless the parent union shows clear and convincing proof that a trusteeship is neccessary for a purpose allowable under the LMRDA.

  1. Dave Regan, the appointed trustee of SEIU UHW-W, stated in our steward council meeting on February 12th that he does not believe that we will elect new leadership in the next 18 months. This was in response to a question of how long before we could elect new leaders.

Obviously, he intends to keep our local under trusteeship longer then 18 months.
